We purchase 10+ 8TB drives per year and have used WD because we thought they were a quality product. One of the new drives we recently purchased 1 month ago did not work out of the box. I got an RMA and sent the drive back for replacement. Mind you it was a brand new drive that was plugged in and would not initialize. Simple right? This is the reply they sent back:

Thank you for contacting Western Digital. Upon inspection of your returned product WXJ1H26W7L7Y (WDBBGB0060HBK-NESN) it was determined that the product may have been altered and is not eligible for replacement under Western Digital’s limited warranty policy.

Per our warranty policy: “If upon inspection of your returned Product WD suspects fraud or deems such Product to be counterfeit, WD may, in its sole discretion, confiscate such Product or take such other actions as it deems necessary.”

Due to our warranty policy we cannot return this product to you. There is no warranty associated to this product and service will not be rendered. We recommend you contact your place of purchase for compensation. You may use this email letter to demonstrate Western Digital’s official view of the product you purchased from your vendor.

What reputable company says this about a brand new drive? As far as I'm concerned they are cheating people with this false warranty. $200+ for an 8TB drive that does not work should have been replaced. So we spent the $200, sent it back, they cheat us on the warranty and now we can't even get the drive back. No more WD drives!

I didn't like: Warranty they have is useless.
