Had a WD My Book Drive break it's connector? Guess what? Your drive is now a DOORSTOP. WD has built in proprietary software that will only recognize it's proprietary HARDware ( ie, it's enclosures w. their circuitboard--see it? now try to re-enclose that bundle into a drive enclosure box!). If that confuses you, try calling their people in the Phillipines or India or Mexico, and they will tell you -Dude, if you took it out of the original My... Read more

I just found this site because I wanted to tell someone about my frustration with Western Digital. This is not the first time I have had problems with WD. The WDTV live box is just not ready for prime time. It crashes all the time and is extremely consumer unfriendly. Sadly, like many other WD products, the device is out of warrantee before you get it home. The worst part is that the company doesn't seem to give a ***. The really bad news... Read more

I hate companies that manufacture and sell consumer products with planned obsolescence... without saying they're going to expire and they won't support. If you release a product in 2011 and still have it available for sale TODAY through Amazon or other vendors... you should expect to support it OR recall it OR disclose that the product is discontinued and will not work. Specifics: Purchased WD TV Live June 2014 from Amazon, specifically... Read more

I purchased a new WD thunderbolt drive for my Macbook Pro. Within 4 months the second disk in the drive failed. I lost a considerable amount of data. Not a cheap drive by any means. This is what I received back from WD: Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Support. We would like to apologise for the time it took for us to reply to your email. As far as I understand, you are using the My Passport Pro and WD Diagnostics is saying... Read more

Smartware really $ucks It is painfully slow, hangs, crashes a lot & takes forever to switch tabs looong hour glass no way to verify if the backup is good. This “SmartWare” is Western Digital’s attempt to introduce their backup and security solution onto unsuspecting consumers. You know about it because it is prominently advertised as a great new... I needed an HD cable, ordered on 4/22, paid extra for "2-day shipping" assuming I would receive it by 4/24 or 4/25 at the latest; received email stating it was shipped on 4/23 - o.k., delivery by 4/25 -right? Today is 4/28, UPS says it has gone out for delivery but I haven't yet received the cable yet. Customer service by phone made various ridiculous claims that the shipping & delivery was as ordered. The "2-day shipping" option is false... Read more

I bought a Western Digital Passbook for Mac in January and in April after I had moved all of my important work and used it as a backup it stopped working. Took it to a data recovery center and they said the drive was built faulty. It will cost me upwards of $500 to replace the lost files. I will never buy a drive from this company again. There was no warning or any kind of prior failure on the drive. It didn't mount on my computer today for the... Read more

I have a My Book Essentials 3.0 TB external hard drive which stopped working rather suddenly. I searched on Google and, as it was out of warranty, I decided to implement some advice I'd found on youtube.com. I removed the hard disk from the enclosure and after a series of simple tests, determined that the USB-SATA bridge which makes it possible to connect to a computer via USB was faulty. I tried to access my data - 2TB of videos - but found... Read more
